And Now it’s Stuck in My Head

On the walk to school this morning Roan began humming.  Then he started singing. Then I heard the words of the two songs he was putting together, laughed, got struck by lighting and am writing this from hell.  It went like this:

“Holy! Holy! Lord God Almighty

Praise be your name

Praise praise praise

Prrr….oops oops oops

I did it again

I’m not that innocent!”

Putting aside any culpability for the hymnal content in my son’s head, I have to acknowledge the interesting nature of the mash-up he’s put together.  Using religious material and Britney Spears, he has fused worship with unworthiness.  That is one profound earworm.  However, it is stuck in my head now.  Any suggestions?

  1. I think that church songs have some kind of audible crack placed in them that makes them stick. I go to church maybe three times per year, but still have those tunes rolling around in my head more often than you’d expect. The added dimension of Britney just makes it a little much. Maybe you could try putting “99 Bottles of beer on the wall” into your head to replace it? That’s probably not much better. Sorry.

  2. Have you tried thinking about the theme from “Love Boat?’ That always sorts it out for me.

  3. Good mixing! All songs can be promptly removed from your “stuck zone” by singing the Kit Kat theme song. Please don’t hate me now. 🙂

  4. Serina – I use 99 bottles of beer on the wall at night to go to sleep. True. Works like a charm. I agree with the audible crack theory. I still have songs from my old religion floating around in my head, and they pop up at the weirdest times. Like when I walk past an apricot tree. Any Mormon out there could probably tell you why.Raphael – totally not helpful. Worse. What have you done?Jori – I don’t hate you but that’s just because I’m not sure what the Kit Kat theme song is. However, now I’m kind of jonesing for chocolate so maybe I do hate you a little.

  5. Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Knees and Toes, Knees and Toes…Head, shoulders, knees and toes…eyes, ears, mouth and nose! There…a new tune to make you crazy today! I am sure you are glad I am coming next week!
